Please join us for these special Christmas and New Year’s worship services!
AUCTION TIME – It is time to get ready for the 2018 CLS Auction. Our annual auction is a great time of fellowship as well as a major fundraiser for our school. We ask you to consider doing three things to support the auction: attend, donate, and solicit.
First, the auction is only successful if lots of people attend. Please consider attending and perhaps putting together a group for a table (you get a free ticket if you buy a table). Tickets will go on sale December 3 and make great Christmas gifts.
Second, the auction is only successful if we have items to auction off. Perhaps you make a craft item that you could donate or you saw something on sale for a great price at a store that you could buy and donate. Please consider donating a bottle of wine (of whatever quality you choose) or a six pack of beer. Please bring your donation to either campus office with a donation form. Donation forms are available in the back of church or in either church/school office. All donations need to be turned in by Friday, February 9.
Finally, the third item is really an extension of the second. You could solicit donations from others. Instead of (or in addition to) donating something you could solicit a donation from someone else. An example would be asking for a gift certificate from a business that you frequent. We are also looking for corporate sponsors who are willing to make a donation and receive some advertising and recognition in return. Donation and Sponsor forms are available in the back of church or in either church/school office. All donations and sponsorships need to be turned in by Friday, February 9.
It’s time to resubscribe or subscribe to the LUTHERAN WITNESS at a discounted rate.
The Lutheran Witness is the official periodical of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod and is published 11 times a year. It provides Missouri Synod laypeople with stories and information that complement congregational life, foster personal growth in faith, and help interpret the contemporary world from a Lutheran Christian perspective. Subscriptions ordered through your church will include the Michigan In Touch supplement at no extra cost. The new subscription year doesn’t begin until March 2018, but orders need to be in to the synod office by December 15, 2017, to take advantage of a discounted District rate of $11.60/year. (Individual subscriptions ordered directly from CPH are $19.99/year.) Late orders will be charged an additional $2. Checks should be made out to St. Paul’s and turned in to the church office no later than December 10th.
If night time services are not good for you, please join us for three noon time advent services.
St. Paul’s Farmington Hills is hosting three Wednesday midday worship services: December 6 – 20, from 12 – 1 p.m.
A circuit-wide worship opportunity at noon, followed by a light lunch.
We are located at 20805 Middlebelt Road in Farmington Hills, on the northwest corner of 8 Mile and Middlebelt Roads.
The Thursday Mid-Day Bible resumes on November 30.
Due to Chris Kitzman’s injury, there will be NO choir practice until further notice. He is hoping to start up again in January.
The Season of Advent is coming soon. In fact, Advent means “coming.” The altar cloths for Advent are blue. Blue is a royal color that is fitting as we ponder the coming of the King of Kings, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is the color of the sky in which we will see him return in power and glory. Advent is a penitential time, similar to Lent. In preparing for our Savior who comes “in the flesh,” we ready our hearts through repentance. Our Advent repenting leads to rejoicing as the Scripture readings appointed for this time share with us that our coming Savior suffered and died to redeem us. The prophet Zechariah urges our rejoicing, “…Behold, your King is coming to you, righteous and having salvation is He…” May our hearts be both penitent and joyful as we look forward to the coming of our Lord and King.
Wednesday Evening Advent Services begin at 7 p.m. on these dates:
